Emergency Lane Keeping*
Chapter 5 · Manual page 266
Emergency Lane Keeping (ELK) refers to real-time detection of lane lines/road edges/vehicles through visual perception, thereby monitoring the relation between your vehicle within the lane and the lane lines, road edges, as well as the relative position to the surrounding vehicles. In cases where a lane departure is caused to your vehicle by driver inattention, the ELK system prevents the vehicle from crossing over the road edge or colliding with an oncoming vehicle, or a following vehicle in the adjacent lane, by providing steering assistance to the driver. The ELK system is an auxiliary system that can assist the driver, it does NOT replace the driver. When choosing to use the emergency lane keeping system, drivers need to concentrate and pay full attention, hold the steering wheel, and be ready to correct direction or take full control of the vehicle, otherwise accidents or personal injuries may occur. The ELK system switch is located on the central display, and the ELK system can be turned on/off by accessing the corresponding intelligent driving interface.
The emergency lane keeping system may not always recognize lane markings or road edges, and may sometimes mistake poor quality road surfaces, certain road structures, or objects for lane markings or road edges.
When encountering situations such as lane addition or merging, the driver needs to take active control.
When encountering complex traffic environments such as intersections, congested road sections, etc., drivers need to take active control.
The ELK function can be activated when the following conditions are met:
- The ELK soft switch on the entertainment screen is in the ON state;
- The system detects that the lane lines on both sides are solid lines or curbs;
- The vehicle is powered on and ready;
- The vehicle network status is good;
- The vehicle is in Drive (D) gear;
- The relevant systems are functioning normally and are fault free;
- The vehicle speed must be above 37mph (60km/h) and below 93mph (150km/h). The emergency lane keeping system is limited or non functional in the following situations:
- The driver operates the direction indicator;
- The driver turns on the hazard warning lights;
- The driver suddenly applies the accelerator pedal, turns sharply, or stamps on the brake pedal;
- The lane markings are too thin, damaged or blurred;
- Driving in darkness at night or with poor lighting;
- Irregular or damaged roadside lines/kerbs/marking;
- Vehicles are driving on bends with small curvature radii, narrow or wide roads;
- The vehicle changes lanes or swings laterally too quickly;
- Vehicle speed is below 34mph (55km/h), or vehicle speed is too high;
- The anti lock braking system and dynamic stability control system are in an activated state;
- The anti lock braking system, dynamic stability control system, electric power steering system, etc. are inoperative or have detected a fault. It is recommended to disable the emergency lane keeping system in the following situations:
- When driving a vehicle in a highly sporty style;
- When encountering adverse weather conditions;
- When driving on poor quality roads;
- When driving past a construction site or roadworks.
