Important Instructions for Using Child Restraint

Chapter 4 · Manual page 192

It is recommended that children below the age of 12 years old should be seated on the rear seat of the vehicle, in a child restraint system appropriate to the children’s age, weight and height. Infants less than 2 years old should be restrained in an infant child restraint system. Compared with adults, children’s muscles and bones do not fully develop, so you need to use dedicated child restraints to protect children. Use child restraints in rear seats to protect children based on the child’s age, height and weight. It is recommended that a child restraint system that complies with AS/NZS 1754-2013 is fitted in this vehicle. When choosing a child restraint, check relevant marks or instructions about the height range applicable for the child restraint and the usage message on it. When installing and using a child restraint, it is necessary to comply with relevant laws and regulations, the instructions supplied by the child restraint manufacturer, and the instructions on children’s safety in this Handbook. The correct use of child restraints will greatly reduce children’s injury risk in accidents or relieve any injury severity, please pay special attention to the following when you use child restraints:

  1. It is recommended that children shorter than 1.5 meters (or under 12 years of age) should use the appropriate child restraint, and cannot use a regular seat belt, otherwise it may cause abdominal or neck injuries.
  2. Never let children ride in an unprotected situation. Care should not be overlooked just because children are sitting in the child restraint.
  3. Only one child may be carried in any one restraint.
  4. DO NOT put the child (including infant) on the lap or in arms when sitting in any seat.
  5. Only proper child restraints can provide protection for your children.
  6. A front seat may need to be adjusted frontward for installing the rear-facing child restraint to the rear seats.
  7. The position of seat head restraints may need to be adjusted for installing a forward-facing child restraint to the rear seats.
  8. Never let your children stand or kneel on the seat whilst traveling; otherwise, your children may be tossed or thrown, leading to injury to not only the child but also other occupants if an accident occurs.
  9. If a child’s body is leaning too far forward or the posture is not correct whilst traveling, then an accident will increase the risk of injury.
  10. The method of using seat belts has a great influence on the maximum protection offered by the seat belt, so you must comply with the child restraint manufacturer’s instructions on correct use of seat belts. If seat belts are not properly fastened, even a minor traffic accident may lead to injury.
  11. Child restraints that are not fitted and secured correctly may move and injure other occupants in the event of an accident or emergency braking. Therefore, even if there is no infant or child in the child restraint, it should be fitted properly and securely in the vehicle.
