How to Wear Seat Belts Correctly

Chapter 4 · Manual page 167

Incorrectly worn seat belts could cause injury or death in the event of an accident.

Seat belts are designed for one person. DO NOT share a seat belt.

DO NOT wrap a seat belt around when holding a baby or child in your arms.

Remove any heavy coats or clothing when wearing a seat belt, failure to do so can affect protection provided by the seat belt.

Seat belts should not be wrapped around hard or sharp objects such as pens, spectacles or keys to avoid additional injury to the users.

Do not drive when the seats are excessively reclined. Seat belts cannot function correctly when the seats are reclined excessively. If an accident occurs, an incorrectly positioned diagonal section of the seat belt could cause damage to the neck or other parts. An incorrectly positioned lap belt section may allow the body to move under the lap belt, causing the lap belt to apply force on abdomen, which may cause serious or fatal injuries.

The seat belts fitted to your vehicle are designed for use by normal sized adults. This part of the literature refers to adult use. For advice on seat belt use with children, please see “How Children Use Seat Belts”. In order to maintain effective protection, the passengers must sit in the correct orientation, placing feet on the floor in front of them, with an upright body against the backrest (no excessive recline) and the seat belt correctly fastened.

  • Always ensure the seat belt will not become trapped in the door aperture when closing the door, otherwise damage will occur.
  • Pulling the seat belt out too quickly may cause it to lock. In this case, allow the seat belt to retract slightly, it will then unlock, and then pull it across your body slowly.
  • If it is difficult to pull the seat belt out, it may be due to twisted webbing out of sight in the side trim panel. If this is the case, pull the metal tab to fully extract the seat belt, remove the twist, and allow the seat belt to retract slowly.
  • Even if the seat belt is not completely smoothed, it must still be worn whilst traveling, but the twisted part of the seat belt should not contact the seat occupant. When this happens, please contact an After-sales Repairer for repair.
