Conditions in Which Airbags Will Not Deploy
Chapter 4 · Manual page 181
The deployment of airbags does not depend on the vehicle speed, but on the object that the vehicle hits, angle of impact and the rate at which the car changes speed as a result of a collision. When the impact force of collision is absorbed or dispersed to vehicle body, airbags may not deploy; however, airbags may sometimes deploy according to impact condition. Therefore, the deployment of airbags shall not be judged based on the severity of vehicle damage. Front Airbags Under certain conditions the front airbags may not be deployed. Some examples are listed below:
- The impact point is not central to the vehicle.
- The collision is with a solid utility pole or traffic sign post.
- Collision with the bottom part of the truck’s liftgate; a cut-in collision with a truck or a vehicle with a higher chassis.
- Frontal collision at an angle with guardrails.
- Impacts to the rear or side of the vehicle.
- Vehicle rollover. Side Airbags, Centre Airbag and Side Curtain Airbags Under certain conditions the seat side and centre airbags and side head airbags may not be deployed. Some examples are listed below:
- Side impacts at certain angles.
- Side impact with a motorcycle.
- Side impact on front compartment.
- Side impact on trunk.
- Vehicle rollover.
- Frontal collision at an angle with guardrails.
- Side collision with posts.
- Frontal collision with parking or moving vehicles.
- Rear collision. Front Passenger Airbag Disable Switch*
This switch should only be used to deactivate the front passenger airbag when a rear-facing child restraint system is installed in the front passenger seat.
Please ensure that the front passenger airbag is activated when an adult is seated in the front passenger seat.
The front passenger side airbag disable function can be turned on or off by using the ‘Car Settings’-‘Driving’-‘Passenger airbag’ path on the central screen.
Front passenger airbag ‘Open/Closed’ status is displayed on the driver instrument screen.
When the passenger airbag is deactivated, the ‘Passenger Airbag Closed’ indicator illuminates.
When the passenger airbag is activated, the ‘Passenger Airbag Open’ indicator illuminates.
If both the “Passenger Airbag Off” and “Passenger Airbag On” indicators are illuminated simultaneously, or if the indicators do not match the actual status of the passenger airbag switch, please contact an After-sales Repairer immediately for inspection.
